Dear Zimmerman family,

This one's for you.

I hope my words do justice to the pains you have caused me, as well as those of the countless other families whose names go unnoticed, but hurts are equally as valid.

I have come to understand, during my time at Renton Prep, I made mistakes. I kept my mouth shut when Michelle made overtly sarcastic remarks in the classroom. I looked the other way when teachers made damaging, insensitive comments. I deeply regret my failure to speak out in these times and admit that my actions, although not deliberately malicious, enabled an oppressive system (held up under the guise of Christianity) to thrive.

I now make it my goal to utilize the platforms I have been granted to amplify not just my voice, but those who have, are currently, and will fall victim to these injustices.

That said, it's time to tell my truths.
